"Transformed nearly a year ago an invitation for a makeover by Yume opened up a whole new vista for me and my lifestyle, I cannot recommend the salon, their treatments and staff too highly."
Claire Edwards
Yume was a dream that was waiting to happen for long term friends Giovanna McCarthy and Jacqui Caley. Their friendship blossomed right at the beginning of their hairdressing careers and after 19 years and a multitude of hairdressing ventures together and apart, felt it was finally the right time to take their friendship and skills to another level to create Yume in August 2006.
Not only do Giovanna and Jacqui share their friendship with you here at Yume, they share the same high standards and professionalism along with a rich blend of individual and varied hairdressing skills, knowledge and creative innovation.
We ensure that as a client you are treated with professionalism, expertise and exceptional high standard of customer care and concern for your hair health and beauty needs.
It is important to us that at the end of each visit here at Yume, that you are completely happy with the way you look and the way you feel.
As Yume evolves with the industry trends we shall continue to educate and share our knowledge, innovation and creativity so that you our client evolve with us, with new possibilities and above all a new you!

Within 19 years, I feel lucky to have achieved many of my personal goals within my hairdressing career, these include Salon Management, Photographic work, Fashion shows, Bridal hair and Teaching Hairdressing up to NVQ Level 3.
What is wonderful is that I am now in the process of combining all of these skills into the next step of my career ladder – a Hair Health and Beauty Business – Yume, a vision of a concept that makes people look and feel their best – all under one roof.
I thrive on making a difference to the way people look and feel, and enjoy a lengthy consultation where I can advice the very best products to maintain healthy and beautiful looking hair.
Over the last 19 years, I have obtained a vast variety of skills that have utilised my creativity in various ways. Throughout this time my interest and skills in hairdressing have been developed both on land and during my time on cruise ships. I am trained and experienced in all aspects of hairdressing, for me its 'hair sculpture' where I enjoy working intuitively, organically and above all creatively. I rise to a challenge and enjoy client transformations, particularly with restyling and hair-up creations for formal/wedding hair. My future aspirations are to develop my skills in the world of avant-garde hair sculpting and photography work to really let my creativity run wild!
From being at Yume from its very beginning, and the beginning of my hairdressing career, I have seen myself develop in so many ways personally and professionally. It's been a great journey!
Over the years my essential understanding of customer care and all round hairdressing ability has developed a great deal. I really do enjoy all aspects of hairdressing but I particularly love working with colour, especially when I see the transformation in the client and end result.
I have obtained varied experience from participating in salon and marketing events, theatrical, fashion show and photo shoot styling. Attending both a Wella Colour Course and TIGI Cutting Course in London, has pushed my interest and skill further, I hope to attend the Wella Master Colour Programme to not only improve my level of skill and knowledge but also the teams technical skill and what the clients at Yume can experience, through more creativity, diversity and expertise.
Growing up, hairdressing has always been in my family, ive never wanted to do anything else!
After qualifying, I had the opportunity to attend a few courses including a Wella 'Red Sensations' Colouring Course in Manchester, specialising in the spectrum of red colouring tecniques and use. I also attended a Trasitional Cutting Course with Tigi in London which which developed my contemporary cutting skill.
I love to explore the more creative aspects of hairdressing, wedding styling/hair-up, make -up and styling for alternative photoshoots and competition work.
I take pride in getting to know my clients and creating bespoke looks to suit their lifestyle and personality. From the sharpest sleekest of bobs, to the wildest and most shocking of mowhawks!
I am a creative stylist with over 20 years experience in hairdressing. After qualifying I worked as a junior stylist and then decided to travel and work in Europe to broaden my horizons.
After my travels I decided to retrain to specialise in cutting; starting at Vidal Sassoon and then at Toni & Guy where I then worked for the next 10 years. During this time I found my creative flare and I have now specialised in cutting for over 12 years.
Cutting and styling is where my passion truly lies and I love working organically to create new styles and shapes to suit individuals bone structure, personal style & lifestyle. I have had some of my work published for magazines and have also travelled to the Toni & Guy London academy numerous times for further training in advanced cutting techniques.
I take pride in keeping up to date with new trends and try to stay one step ahead creating my own interpretation of fashion and modern styles.
From a young age I have always had a passion for hair. Now that I am working at Yume, I am really enjoying seeing what hairdressing is all about and how diverse hair can be and what it can do!
What really excites me is seeing a complete transformation from start to finish. Working as an assistant to the stylists I am able to observe and soak up valuable skills and information, so that one day I will be able to put it all into practice with my own clients.
As well as this, I am really excited to get involved in competitions and developmental courses to push my progress.
I qualified as a Master Beauty Therapist and Make - up Artist nearly twenty years ago.
During which time I have excelled in the Beauty industry by continually developing my education gaining my teaching qualifications in Reflexology, Aromatherapy Diplomas, also becoming a Caci non surgical face lift specialist and Dermalogica skin care consultant.
After working happily in the Marriott Hotel Leisure Club, I opened my own holistic health and beauty clinic called 'Aroma' in the heart of Pontcanna in Cardiff.
I was very excited to open 'Aroma Central' at Yume this year and the team of therapists have enjoyed developing the new central beauty business and bringing the latest treatments to town.
My beauty experience and involvement in the industry spans 8 years. During this time I have worked at Holland House where I was able to specialise in providing spa pamper experiences. I then relocated to Aroma (Holistic Health & Beauty Clinic) in Pontcanna providing a variety of holistic and beauty treatments.
Now that Aroma Central has arrived at Yume, I am appreciating that the hair clients and their interest for a wide range of beauty treatments are developing my skills and enjoyment of keeping up to date with the new beauty trends. I am hoping to specialise in semi permanent eyelashes which will compliment the bridal make-up that I also would like to be more involved with in the future.
Overall, I get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment tailor making the treatments and advice to suit the clients need and rebalance a sense of calm and wellbeing.
I have been in the beauty industry for 8 years, during my time I gained experience at a Spa environment where I worked at Vital Spa situated in Holland House. I then joined the Aroma team in Pontcanna (Holistic, Health & Beauty Clinic) where I worked for 5 years before joining the team here in Yume.
Even though I enjoy all aspects of beauty, my favourite treatments would have to be facials, as I have an extensive knowledge of dermalogica products and enjoy giving my clients advice on their skin and how to get the best results.
I particularly like a challenge and enjoy learning new things, as I am looking forward to being trained in semi permanent eye lashes and gel nails to provide a wider choice for clients. I still enjoy the whole experience of meeting new people and learning new things every day and I am excited to see what the next few years have in store for me at Yume!
